Regular Maintenance for Samuel Lawrence Hospitality (SLH) Furniture
Wipe the furniture when needed with a mild soap and water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Please note that these durable materials can be safely cleaned as often as desired. Note: Some harsh cleaning agents used by housekeeping and guest nail polish remover may be harmful to furniture finishes and material. Do not allow such products to come in contact with SLH products, which are not covered under warranty in this case.
Removing Packaging
The packaging that surrounds your new product was designed to prevent damage during transportation. It is durable and protects the material inside. Do not use knives to cut plastic or cardboard nearest the product. This can cause the contents to be cut or scratched. Cut material is not covered within the SLH warranty. If product is unpacked in a warehouse and then transported to the hotel, we strongly recommend that the furniture be wrapped with blanket wraps to protect the product from damages during loading and unloading and placing in the room. We ask that you recycle the packaging material as part of our commitment to protect the environment we all live in. Glass and stone tops should be handled with care and clean gloves. Keep the pieces on edge when moving on furniture carts and carrying. Holding these pieces horizontal and flat can cause breakage. Items that require assembly will have instructions in the package along with hardware and parts to assemble. Be careful to not dispose of assembly instructions and material with the carton.
How to Care for Wood Materials
Hard woods and veneers are natural materials that expand and contract with exposure to different temperatures and humidity. Clean the wood with a damp cloth and wipe off excessive water, oils, drinks, and food spills to avoid discoloration. Keep natural wood furniture out of direct weather and if storing for a temporary time, store in a climate-controlled warehouse. Once the furniture is installed, a hotel with operating HVAC it will climatize to the conditions in the hotel and function well. Hotels that do not have HVAC service for long periods of time can affect the furniture finish and joints which is outside of the manufacture warranty. If the wood is scratched or damaged it can be touched up with a stain touch up pen or pencil. We don’t recommend furniture polish or oils. They can build up a film on top of the commercial finish and cause a cloudy appearance.
How to Clean Fabric
Fabric provided by other manufacturers should be cleaned according to their recommendations. Warranty on that material is covered by original manufacturer.
How to Care for Stone and Marble
Quartz and granite are the most durable stones to use in hotels. They are natural materials and are very resilient to staining and breakage. Marble is a natural but porous material that is susceptible to breaking at vein lines and it can stain. To maintain marble, apply a stone sealer every 6 months to protect and restore the top. This should be repeated each year. Quartz and granite do not require sealer. If a tabletop is stained with any liquid or food, clean immediately with a mild detergent and rinse with water.
How to Care for Stainless Steel
Do not use stainless steel frames near the ocean. Ocean salt water can damage the stainless steel finish. If a stain or rust spot appears clean promptly. Rust can permanently etch the steel surface. Apply a non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner/polish. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Rub with the grain not in a circular motion. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry. If stain remains, use a no scratch scrub sponge or hand pad to polish the stainless steel. Do not use bleach, cleaners with bleach, hydrochloric acid, abrasive pads or cleaners.
